This album was born as an exercise for myself to compose one piece in each of the seven modes of the diatonic scale. Due to my level of skill on the keyboard, I obviously chose C major as my starting point.

Then I realized that "C" sounds like "sea", and major is just another word for great, so by going through the scale degrees, you're travelling "across the great sea". That pun was too good to not follow through with.

So the resulting seven tracks form a bit of a tongue-in-cheek concept album about an epic naval adventure. But the jokey origin doesn't mean that I wasn't serious about making the music sound as good as possible, and I think that at points it gets immersive enough to bring the smell of salt water to your nose ;)
